Hey friends! You’re listening to This Quote Changed My Life , a podcast about intentional action. My name is Tracey and I’m the host of the show. If you’re listening for the first time – hello, and happy new year to you! This podcast is about the quotes I’ve found that have made me step up and make a change in my life – so I really hope that you find an episode of the podcast that really resonates with you too.
So welcome to January 2021 – the start of a brand new year and traditionally we look at the beginning of the year to review past goals and set new ones. While I do think you should be goal setting throughout the year, there’s something about a fresh new year to start planning ahead, start taking our dreams and turning them into a reality.
Today’s episode is about the start of our goal setting journey – so I hope you can follow along with me either through this podcast episode or join my Patreon where I have a worksheet each month as part of my mindset & mindfulness challenge. If you can support me and the podcast, I’d love to have you there.
This episode’s quote is – Your dreams don’t have to be big, but they have to be yours.
I think I’ve said this before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again – trying to find out who we are can be a long process. We’ll try a bunch of different things, and figure out what we like and don’t like. We’ll make mistakes and learn from them hopefully, and we’ll also find the things we’re naturally good at and drawn to.
But the question now becomes – is what I’m doing because I do love it, or because I’m good at it and people expect me to do it, but doesn’t mean much to me? Or they’re doing it, so I should be doing it too…
It’s really easy to fall into the trap of wanting to please others, or even please yourself because it creates a sense of comfort. It’s easy, so I do it. They like it, so I do it. They notice me, so I do it. But what about what you want?
I can relate this quote – dreams don’t have to be big, but they have to be yours – to the creation of my Card Deck last year. I’m not a Tarot Reader but I found comfort in shuffling and pulling a card from a deck by Gabrielle Berstein (??). It was always such a calming thing to do, either by myself or with my daughter Jovie, and I knew that later down the track I wanted to create something like that. Fast forward to mid 2020, when we’re all dealing with the pandemic, we were in lockdown here in Sydney and again the card deck idea popped up. I was already more than a year into having this podcast – which is all about intention and quotes – and the idea for my card deck was born.
It wasn’t an idea pulled out of what was trending, in fact I knew it would be a hard thing to sell – not everyone understands what a card deck is for, let alone want to buy one – but the dream was mine. And you know, from that idea to holding my first copy in my hand was probably only 6 months. It wasn’t a huge production, it wasn’t going to change the world, but I made something that I am proud of. The dream didn’t have to be big, but it’s mine.
So how do you find your passion – what you should go for?
I believe you already know. You’ve already got the idea inside of you.
It’s something that maybe you hide because you think it’s silly. (It’s not).
It’s something that you could spend hours on, because that’s your happy place.
It’s something you would do regardless of how much money it makes, or who sees it.
Your dream is just that – yours.
Close your eyes and think about this – what would you be doing that makes you proud of yourself?
What are you doing that makes you feel most like yourself?
If there was no judgement, no critique – just you being yourself, what are you doing?
Now, why aren’t you doing it?
That’s the next step – and we’ll talk about that more over in my Patreon challenge this month and in the next podcast episode.
That feeling of knowing what you’re doing is something coming from within you – that’s a special spark that I hope you get to experience this year. Knowing that you trust yourself, that you took the time to not only be intentional, but plan it out properly and have the courage to move forward each time it feels a little scary.
Pushing past the boundaries of your comfort zone is another challenge in itself, but what if you just did it scared anyway? Where would that lead you?
